Medical Assisting

A medical assistant is a healthcare professional who provides administrative and clinical support to physicians and other healthcare staff in various healthcare settings, including clinics, hospitals and doctor's offices.

Richmond Community College offers a Medical Assisting program comprised of two phases that are completed over the course of two semesters. During the second phase, students receive five weeks of work experience in clinical settings. In order to start phase two, students must successfully complete required courses.

Oct. 15 - May 13, 2026 | Monday and Tuesday from 8:25 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:25 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. | Grimsley Building, room 236, Hamlet Campus | Tuition for this class is $180; fees are $438.

March 16, 2026 - April 23, 2026: Clinicals run Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Prerequisites for Enrollment

Completed registration form

High school diploma or equivalent transcript (with expected graduation date or completion date)

Accuplacer Next Generation Reading and Math test of 250 or higher OR transcript showing successful completion of college level English and Math class
