
Former Alumni Award Winner Fills Leadership Position for RichmondCC Foundation
Former Richmond Community College Alumni Award Winner Dr. Wendy Kelly Jordan is now serving as the Associate Vice President for Development for RichmondCC.
Jordan comes to the College from Richmond County Schools, where she spent much of her career in education. She is a 1990 graduate of RichmondCC and then transferred to Appalachian State University to earn a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She went on to receive a master’s degree in School Administration and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from East Carolina University.

Mechatronics Student Lands Job with Electrical Contracting Company
Mechatronics Engineering Technology student Constantine Amoroso was recently hired by RH McRae Electrical of Rockingham, and the 19-year-old was excited about his first assignment, which included flying to Arkansas City, Kan., for an electrical installation.

Mechatronics Student's Interest in Robotics Sparked at STEM Camp
Ellen Carrillo Mayoral was 13 years old when she was introduced to robotics and electronics at a STEM camp at Richmond Community College. Ellen was among 25 young girls who took part in the “Girls Exploring Engineering” camp in February 2020 hosted by women engineering instructors at RichmondCC. That day sparked an interest in her that would carry her forward to a degree in engineering.

Restaurant Owner Grateful for Business Degree from RichmondCC
As the owner and operator of Teriyaki Express Japanese Restaurant Inc. in Sanford, Jeanette Lopez enjoys not only the freedom of owning her own business but also being able to work with her family every day.
Lopez, a 2015 graduate of Richmond Community College’s Business Administration program, opened Teriyaki Express in July 2020 just as COVID-19 restrictions were being lifted.

Latham Pools Receiving Customized Training For Capital Investment
Richmond Community College has secured over $80,000 in customized training funds for Latham Pools to offset a more than $3 million investment made recently by the company to increase its efficiency in manufacturing fiberglass swimming pools.
“Right now, our facility in Rockingham is the second largest provider of pools in the United States,” said Plant Manager Gil Aponte. “Our goal, of course, is to become number one.”

BraveNation Advantage Opens New Pathway for RichmondCC Graduates to UNCP
Richmond Community College students can now qualify for guaranteed admission to the University of North Carolina-Pembroke through the BraveNation Advantage Transfer Program.
Leaders of both colleges met at the Cole Auditorium on April 16 to officially sign the BraveNation Advantage transfer agreement. They were also joined by many UNCP graduates who work at RichmondCC, including RichmondCC President Brent Barbee.

Learning a trade has proven to be the springboard to a successful career for two young men who graduated high school less than five years ago. Mitchell Paul of Hamlet and Bryan Stevens of Rockingham are set to graduate from the Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Technology program at Richmond Community College in May, but both have already landed high-paying jobs in the HVAC industry.
